But more importantly, their path grew easier Monday as they secured home-field advantage throughout the postseason.Lose, and the Brewers would have been facing the dreaded play-in game Tuesday. Had they won that, they'd have a series against the Cubs without home-field advantage.Instead, they get two days off and will host either the Cubs, Dodgers or Rockies at Miller Park come Thursday.Maximiliano Bretos mbretosESPNGood for you Milwaukee, good for you Brewers . Has to feel like a million bucks to celebrate on Wrigley Field.Dan Wolken DanWolkenBrewers have been great down the stretch. Very deserving winner.Avoiding the play-in game was crucial. A team's season can be over in the blink of an eye, lost due to a flukey bounce of the ball or at the hands of a suddenly unhittable pitcher. But the Brewers are also red-hot. Since Sept. 1, they are 20-7, winning eight games in a row and 10 of their last 11. They have a deep bullpen and a fearsome top of the lineup, led by Yelich, who might be the best player in baseball this season. All of this is happening ahead of schedule, as Dan O'Donnell of NewsTalk 1130 noted:Dan ODonnell DanODonnellShowTwo years into a 鈥渞ebuild,鈥?the Brewers:-Won 96 games-Won their division -Had the best record in the NL-Secured home field advantage throughout the NL playoffs-Have the MVP frontrunner and serious Manager and Executive of the Year candidatesWhile the pieces are falling into place Noah Syndergaard Jersey , none of that matters if the Brewers suddenly start playing poorly. But Milwaukee looks like it could make a World Series run this October.Continued Heroics from Lorenzo Cain and Ryan Braun Will Be Crucial in PostseasonPerhaps lost amid the magic of Milwaukee's run to the postseason is the fact that the Brewers aren't brimming with postseason experience.Players such as Yelich, Jesus Aguilar, Josh Hader, Jhoulys Chacin and Chase Anderson have never been in the playoffs. Travis Shaw has appeared in one postseason contest.Players like Cain and Braun, however, have danced in October. Cain in particular won a World Series with the Kansas City Royals in 2015.Both looked the part of wily veterans Monday. Cain's eighth-inning RBI single proved to be the game-winning hit. Two batters later, Braun gave the team some wiggle room with an RBI single of his own.Stephen A Smith stephenasmithBut before that, Lorenzo Cain reminded everyone that he knows a thing or two about championship-caliber play, smacking an RBI single up the middle. And to think, once upon a time, we thought his career was on the verge of being overObviously, the Brewers will only go as far as their top players take them. If Yelich suddenly goes ice-cold and Aguilar goes through a power drought, they'll be in trouble. But they have veterans, including Cain and even MikeMoustakas, who can not only contribute on the field but also guide the younger players behind the scenes. And if they consistently come up as clutch, as they did Monday http://www.metsfanproshop.com/authentic-yoenis-cespedes-jersey , the Brewers are going to be difficult to beat.Joe Maddon's Liberal Bullpen Use Could Haunt Cubs in Play-In GameManager Joe Maddon was not shy about utilizing his bullpen Monday, using seven pitchers. It was clear he was going all out to avoid the play-in game, but following the loss, that strategy could come back to bite the team.Of course, all is not lost with Jon Lester on the mound. BALTIMORE — Kendrys Morales will have a chance to tie a major league record Monday when his Toronto Blue Jays come to Oriole Park to start a three-game series versus Baltimore.Morales homered for the seventh consecutive game Sunday in a loss to the Phillies. The major league record for homers in consecutive games is eight Michael Conforto Jersey , shared by Ken Griffey Jr. (1993), Don Mattingly (1987) and Dale Long (1956).“It’s pretty impressive,” Toronto manager John Gibbons told the media Sunday. “It’s a surprise he still gets pitches to hit. It really couldn’t happen to a better guy.”Article continues below ...Morales also could be helped by the fact that he’s coming to Camden Yards, a place the baseball tends to fly out of on a warm summer night.Morales comes into the Baltimore series with a .264 average, 21 home runs and 53 RBIs. His homer Sunday that stretched the streak to seven came in the first inning against Philadelphia.Toronto had won five in a row before Sunday’s loss, so the Blue Jays will try to start another winning streak. They’ve done well against the Orioles this season, winning 12 of 13 games versus Baltimore. In fact, the Blue Jays took all 10 games they played against the Orioles in Toronto this season. The Blue Jays (60-70) will start Sam Gaviglio (3-6, 4.94 ERA) while Baltimore counters with David Hess (2-8, 5.50). Gaviglio’s last start came versus Baltimore, when he picked up the win after allowing two runs in seven innings in Toronto’s 7-2 victory Tuesday. He is 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA in two starts versus the Orioles.Hess is 0-1 and has a 1.38 ERA in two starts against the Blue Jays after allowing one run in seven innings of a 6-0 loss at Toronto on Wednesday. He has been pitching better lately for a Baltimore team that’s been having problems everywhere. The Orioles (37-94) come into the series having dropped eight straight games after the Yankees completed a four-game sweep with a 5-3 victory Sunday night. They also lost rookie center fielder Cedric Mullins with a hip injury. He did not play Sunday. Manager Buck Showalter told the media that Mullins suffered the injury during Saturday’s doubleheader loss.“He’s not sure exactly which play,” Showalter told the media. “He thought it was probably on a throw he made, kind of off-balance, awkward throw. Just didn’t think it was in his best interest (to play Sunday). I don’t want it to linger on.”Mullins has a .309 average in 15 games since coming to the major leagues for the first time Aug. 10. That’s when Showalter moved long-time center fielder Adam Jones to right field. In fact, Showalter kept Jones in right field with Mullins out Sunday because he wants the veteran to get as used to that position as much as possible. The skipper used Craig Gentry in center field in place of Mullins on Sunday. The Orioles are hoping the Mullins’ injury won’t be one that keeps him out for a long stretch as he’s already become a solid lead-off hitter.
